Our amazing volunteers and staff did an incredible job spreading some festive cheer this holiday season! The rescued animals absolutely loved their Christmas enrichments.
Num Choke the newly rescued elephant
Num choke’s trouble with her feet
Num Choke, the elephant that was rescued in February 2013, has cracked feet and nails as foot care was likely neglected for a few years. Vets at WFFT trimmed and debrided her feet under sedation yesterday.
We are now going to constuct a few shallow, concrete foot baths for elephants that will be ideal for this and future foot problems. Elephant Walks through the foot bath and stands in antiseptic for a few minutes a day will surely be a great tool to trat wounds and prevent new infections.
